Pet Photography Client Gallery: From First Look to Final Download

A pet session gallery has three jobs: show the set in an order the owner can follow, collect one agreed shortlist from the household, and hand over the finals. One link can do all three.

Updated 24 September 2026

A pet session rarely has one decision maker.

The person who booked it opens the gallery first.

Then a partner wants a say, a teenager wants the funny one, and a parent across the country wants a copy for the fridge.

Meanwhile the set itself is long, because the animal moved and you kept shooting.

This guide is about the gallery around that set: how to lay it out, how the household shares it, and how the finished photos leave it.

How to cut the session down to distinct choices before anyone sees it is a separate step, covered in the pet photography proofing workflow.

What a pet client gallery has to do

The gallery is opened on phones, often in the evening, by people who were not at the shoot.

It has to make sense without you there to explain it.

  • Show the session in an order that follows the day: studio, outdoors, with the family, details.
  • Work as one link that the whole household can open without an account.
  • Collect one shortlist, not three competing ones.
  • Turn into the delivery page later, so nobody has to keep track of a second link.
  • Let the owner save the photos, and post the chosen ones, without asking you for resized copies.

Lay the session out in sections

On clientgallery.io you can group a gallery into sections in the studio.

Sections are a studio-side organising tool.

The owner does not navigate between them.

They see one scrolling page, with a jump-to bar at the top that lists each section by name and shows how many photos it holds.

Any photos you leave outside a section appear first, and the jump-to bar lists them as Highlights.

That gives you a simple pattern for a pet session.

Where it sitsWhat to put thereWhy
Outside any section (Highlights)Your six to ten strongest framesThe first thing the household sees is your best work
Section: StudioBackdrop portraitsSimilar frames stay together, so comparing them is easy
Section: OutdoorsPark, beach or garden framesKeeps the look of each setting consistent on screen
Section: With the familyPeople and pet togetherThe frames other relatives will ask about
Section: Details and actionPaws, noses, running shotsEasy to skip for someone choosing a wall print

The table is a suggested layout, not a product template. Name the sections whatever suits the session.

A gallery holds up to 1,000 photos under fair use, which is far more than a culled pet session needs.

One link for the household, one shared shortlist

Everyone who opens the gallery link works on the same set of picks.

There is no separate shortlist per person.

A star from one person and a love from another land on the same gallery.

When someone presses Send my picks, the selection is sent to you and picking locks for the whole gallery.

That is useful, because you receive one agreed list instead of three.

It also means the household needs to agree who presses the button.

Say it in the welcome note, which appears under the gallery title: for example, choose together over the weekend, and let the person who booked send the picks.

The same behaviour, with more detail on how several people share one selection, is explained in the answer on multiple people choosing from one gallery.

No one in the household needs an account or an app. The link opens in a phone browser.

Two pick levels turn a long set into a shortlist

There are two pick levels on every photo.

In the full-screen view, a tap stars a photo: a yes.

A double tap loves it: a favourite.

For a pet session that maps neatly onto two questions.

  • Star everything you would be happy to own.
  • Love only the frames you would put on a wall or in an album.

The logic of the two levels is laid out in the star and love pick levels guide, and a two-pass method for narrowing a long list is in the guide to helping clients narrow their picks.

If you edit in Lightroom Classic, the two-way plugin pulls the household’s picks back into your catalog, so you retouch the chosen frames without retyping filenames. The mechanics are on the picks back into Lightroom page.

Turn the same gallery into the delivery

Picking and downloading are separate switches on each gallery.

Once the finals are retouched, you can switch that same gallery over to delivery: picks off, downloads on.

With picks off, the page opens with a line telling the owner their photos are ready.

With downloads on, the page shows a Download all photos button and a download button on each photo.

The link the household already has keeps working, so there is no second link to lose.

If you would rather the household never scrolls past proofs on the keepsake page, deliver the finals in a fresh gallery instead. Galleries carry no per-gallery fee on the paid plan.

The hosted photos are right for phones, messages and digital frames.

For a canvas of the dog, attach the full-resolution ZIP. The page shows it as its own button with the number of days it stays available.

Social crops once the picks are sent

An owner who wants to post the photos should not have to ask you for resized copies.

After the picks are sent, the gallery offers the household a download of every picked photo cropped to four shapes: Story 9:16, Post 4:5, Square 1:1 and Wide 16:9.

The crop is made in the viewer’s own browser and saved to their device.

It is a centre crop.

A dog sitting at the edge of a wide frame can lose an ear in the 9:16 version, so check your loved frames with that in mind, or switch the crops off for that gallery.

More on how clients post gallery photos is in the answer on posting gallery photos to Instagram.

Privacy and the link over time

Each gallery can have its own password, which covers the whole gallery, sections included.

You can hide the gallery’s share button if you would rather the link was not passed around, but a password or a hidden button cannot stop someone from copying the address and the password.

Hosted galleries do not expire. The gallery stays up while your account exists, unless you revoke or delete it.

That matters with pets. Owners come back to a session years later, and the link should still open.

The full-resolution ZIP is the exception, at 3 days per upload, so tell the owner to save it when it arrives.

The service hosts JPEGs. It does not keep RAW files or masters, so those stay on your own drives.

When another tool fits better

clientgallery.io has no print store, no order form and takes no commissions.

A pet studio whose income comes from wall art and albums ordered through a lab inside the gallery should stay on a platform with a store built in, such as Pixieset or Pic-Time.

A studio that sells through an in-person reveal appointment should keep that appointment. A download link does not sell a framed print the way a reveal does.

clientgallery.io fits the studio that sells a digital collection at a set price, wants picks back without a spreadsheet, and wants delivery to take minutes.

You can put your own payment link in the gallery, but releasing downloads after payment is a switch you flip yourself.

For the wider family-session version of this workflow, see the family session gallery guide.

This page states no external figure.

Every number on it is a clientgallery.io product fact, checked against the product code on 24 September 2026: the plan prices, the free account limits, the fair-use ceilings of 1,000 photos per gallery and 250 GB per paid account, the two pick levels, the four social crop shapes, the 3-day full-resolution ZIP with 100 GB of standing ZIPs, and the absence of gallery expiry.

Pixieset and Pic-Time are named only as examples of platforms with a built-in print store; no figure about them is stated.

Frequently asked

How should I organise a pet photography client gallery?

Put your strongest frames outside any section so they appear first, then group the rest into sections by setting, such as studio, outdoors, with the family and details. The client sees one scrolling page with a jump-to bar that lists each section and its photo count.

Can the whole household choose photos from one gallery?

Yes. Everyone with the link works on one shared set of stars and loves. When one person presses Send my picks, the selection goes to the studio and picking locks for the whole gallery, so agree who sends it.

Do pet owners need an account to see the gallery?

No. The gallery is a web page behind an optional password. It opens in a phone or computer browser with no account and no app.

Can clients crop their pet photos for Instagram?

After the picks are sent, the gallery offers every picked photo cropped to Story 9:16, Post 4:5, Square 1:1 and Wide 16:9, made in the viewer's browser. It is a centre crop, so check frames where the animal sits near the edge. The studio can switch the crops off per gallery.

Can I use the proofing gallery for final delivery?

Yes. Picks and downloads are separate switches, so the same gallery can move from proofing to delivery with picks off and downloads on. The household keeps the same link.

Are the downloads good enough to print a canvas?

The one-click download gives the hosted photos, which are sized for fast viewing. For print files, a paid account attaches a full-resolution ZIP that stays live for 3 days per upload and can be uploaded again at any time.
