Answer
Is Pixieset Worth It?
For a studio that sells prints and runs its bookings in one place, yes. For a studio that only delivers finished files, you are paying for a shop you never open.
Updated September 2026
Pixieset is the most complete product in the client-gallery category. That is the starting point of an honest answer, not a concession. Galleries, a website builder, a print store with lab fulfilment and a full studio CRM sit under one subscription, and every paid plan takes 0% of your sales. If you use those parts, the subscription is not expensive for what it does.
The question is whether you use them. Worth it is not a property of the software. It is a ratio between what the platform can do and what your week actually looks like. This page sets out what the money buys, what Pixieset publishes about its own pricing and what it does not, the one profile that should stay put, and the one profile paying for a shop it never opens.
The short answer
Pixieset is worth it if your revenue passes through it. A studio that sells prints, albums and wall art through the store, and that writes contracts, quotes and invoices in Studio Manager, is buying a business system with galleries attached. Replacing that with a delivery tool means rebuilding the sales and admin half somewhere else, which is a real loss and a real cost in hours.
Pixieset is not worth it if your galleries are the last step of a job that was already paid for. In that case the store never opens, the CRM sits empty, and the part you use is the part every platform in the category does. You are then paying a tiered subscription for file delivery, and file delivery is the cheapest thing on the market.
Everything below is the working behind those two sentences.
What the money actually buys
Four products share one account, and the plan names tell you how the company thinks about them. Pixieset states its plan families as Client Gallery (Free, Basic, Plus, Pro, Ultimate), Suite (Starter, Pro, Ultimate) and Studio (Studio 60, Studio 80, Studio 120) in its commission article (article updated 8 September 2026).
The store is the strongest piece. Clients order prints and albums from inside the gallery, and orders route to a lab rather than to your inbox. That turns delivery into a sales surface without you handling fulfilment. It only pays if your clients buy, and only you know whether they do.
Studio Manager is the second piece, and it is the one most often undervalued in comparisons. Contracts, invoices, quotes, payments and booking flow live next to the galleries, so a job is one record from enquiry to delivery. A studio running that today on a separate CRM plus a separate invoicing tool is paying twice and reconciling by hand. Consolidation has genuine value, and it is the reason to stay that no feature table captures.
Third, galleries do not expire while you pay. Pixieset states that collections stay online for as long as you have an active subscription, or until you delete them yourself, and that they do not expire unless you use the Auto-Expiry feature (article updated 14 July 2026). Auto-Expiry is opt-in: Pixieset states that when the date is reached the collection is set to Hidden and clients can no longer view the images, at 11:59pm local time on the date you set (article updated 10 August 2026). Plenty of platforms in this category time galleries out by default. Pixieset does not, and that is worth saying plainly.
Fourth, commission. Pixieset states that Client Gallery Basic, Plus, Pro and Ultimate, Suite Starter, Pro and Ultimate, and Studio 60, 80 and 120 are all 0% (article updated 8 September 2026). If you sell through the store on any paid plan, the platform does not take a percentage of it.
What Pixieset publishes, and what it does not
A fair verdict needs numbers, so here are the ones Pixieset itself publishes in its help centre, each with the date that article was last updated. Two rows are blank on purpose, and the blanks matter as much as the figures.
| Figure | What Pixieset states | Article updated |
|---|---|---|
| Entry price | "The Client Gallery plans start as low as $8/month billed annually (or $10/month billed monthly)." | 11 September 2026 |
| Annual discount | "Yearly plans offer up to a 20% discount compared to the monthly rate." | 11 September 2026 |
| Commission, Free plan | 15% on store orders | 8 September 2026 |
| Commission, every paid plan | 0% on Client Gallery, Suite and Studio plans | 8 September 2026 |
| What the 15% is charged on | "the order subtotal, before any discounts, coupon codes, taxes, or shipping fees are applied" | 8 September 2026 |
| Gallery expiry | Collections stay online while the subscription is active and do not expire unless Auto-Expiry is used | 14 July 2026 |
| Price of each tier above the entry plan | Not quoted here, see below | n/a |
| Storage on any tier | Not quoted here, see below | n/a |
The last two rows need an explanation rather than an accusation. As of 11 September 2026 we could not read Pixieset's per-tier prices or storage allowances from Pixieset's own published pages, and the help-centre articles that discuss plans do not carry them. Rather than copy figures from a review site or infer them from the entry price, this page leaves them out. If you want those numbers, open Pixieset's pricing page in your browser and read them yourself before you decide.
That is a fair point of friction, not a scandal. Most photographers upgrade because they hit a ceiling, not because they read a table. But it does mean the honest way to judge the tiers is by what they do for your studio rather than by a price you cannot read from outside an account. Our separate page on what Pixieset costs per month walks the tier arithmetic with the figures that were readable when it was written.
Where the free plan stops being free
The Free plan is how most photographers meet Pixieset, and it is the one place the value question turns sharply. Pixieset states that a 15% commission fee is applied to orders on the Free Client Gallery plan, and that accounts on any upgraded Client Gallery or Suite plan get 0% (article updated 11 September 2026).
Two details change the size of that number. The fee is calculated on the order subtotal before any discounts, coupon codes, taxes or shipping fees are applied (article updated 8 September 2026). So a promotion you run comes out of your share, not out of the commission. And Pixieset states that the commission fee is in addition to any processing fees charged by your third-party payment processor (article updated 8 September 2026), so the card fee stacks on top.
The arithmetic is simple and it favours upgrading. If you sell anything at all through the store, 15% of your subtotals is almost certainly more than the entry subscription, which Pixieset states starts at $8/month billed annually or $10/month billed monthly (article updated 11 September 2026). The free plan is a trial, not a tier. Treat it as one.
Who should keep paying for it
Stay on Pixieset if two of these three are true of your studio.
Your clients buy prints, albums or wall art, and a meaningful share of your revenue comes after delivery rather than before it. The store plus lab fulfilment at 0% commission on a paid plan is the whole product in that case, and no flat-price delivery tool replaces it.
Your bookings, contracts and invoices live in Studio Manager. Moving galleries out while leaving the CRM behind splits one record into two systems, and you will feel that every week. The switching cost here is operational, not technical.
Your client-facing website is a Pixieset website. Unpicking a gallery platform from the site it feeds is a separate project with its own risk, and it rarely pays for itself in subscription savings alone.
If all three are true, the answer to the title question is yes, and nothing on this page should talk you out of it.
The studio it is the wrong shape for
There is one profile where the ratio inverts. A commercial, editorial, corporate or documentary photographer, or a portrait studio that charges a session fee and hands over finished files, sells nothing through a store and books nothing through a CRM they do not use. For them the store is dead weight, the 0% commission is a discount on zero, and the subscription is buying file delivery on a ladder priced by storage.
That is the gap clientgallery.io was built for, and it is deliberately narrower than Pixieset. One plan, one price, and no shop.
| clientgallery.io | Figure |
|---|---|
| Price | 10 $/month, or 100 $/year |
| Galleries, photos, clients | Unlimited under fair use |
| Fair-use ceiling, per gallery | 1,000 photos |
| Fair-use ceiling, paid account | 250 GB of proofs, which is hundreds of thousands of photos |
| Free account | 5 GB |
| Proof file size | Browser-compressed JPEGs of about 0.6 MB each |
| Full-resolution delivery | One ZIP per gallery, live 3 days per handoff, re-uploadable any time |
| Standing ZIPs per account | 100 GB |
| Print store, commissions, per-gallery fees, storage tiers | None of them exist |
The trade is explicit. There is no store, so there is no print revenue to lose a percentage of and none to gain. Hosted photos are proof JPEGs, sized for fast viewing rather than for archiving, which is what keeps one price on one plan. Full-resolution delivery is a per-gallery ZIP with a three-day window per handoff, re-uploaded whenever a client asks again, rather than a permanent original-file warehouse. If you need a shop or a vault, this is not the product.
How to decide in ten minutes
Open your last twelve months of invoices. Add up the revenue that arrived through the gallery store. If that number is larger than a year of your Pixieset plan, the platform pays for itself and the verdict is settled.
Then count the jobs where you wrote a contract or sent an invoice inside Studio Manager. If that is most of them, the galleries are not the product you are buying and the price of the gallery tier is the wrong thing to be comparing.
If both numbers come back near zero, you have your answer too, and the only remaining question is what a switch costs you in hours. clientgallery.io imports a whole Pixieset account from the Pixieset dashboard with one bookmark: every collection, its sets, titles, descriptions, event date, password and photo order, reproduced at full size under your own brand. Pixieset is only read, never changed, and no password reaches clientgallery.io. Re-running the import skips what is already there, so the move can run in stages without duplicates.

Frequently asked
Is Pixieset worth the money in 2026?
For a studio that sells prints through the gallery store and runs bookings, contracts and invoices in Studio Manager, yes: the subscription buys a business system, and Pixieset states that every paid Client Gallery, Suite and Studio plan takes 0% commission (article updated 8 September 2026). For a studio that only delivers finished files, the store and the CRM go unused and the subscription is buying file delivery alone.
How much does Pixieset cost to start?
Pixieset states that Client Gallery plans start as low as $8/month billed annually, or $10/month billed monthly (article updated 11 September 2026), and that yearly plans offer up to a 20% discount compared to the monthly rate (article updated 11 September 2026). Prices for the tiers above the entry plan are not quoted here because they are not readable from Pixieset's own published pages; check them in your browser before deciding.
Does the Pixieset free plan take a cut of my sales?
Yes. Pixieset states that a 15% commission fee is applied to orders on the Free Client Gallery plan, calculated on the order subtotal before any discounts, coupon codes, taxes or shipping fees, and in addition to any processing fees charged by your payment processor (articles updated 8 September 2026 and 11 September 2026). Accounts on any upgraded Client Gallery or Suite plan pay 0%.
Do Pixieset galleries expire?
No, not on their own. Pixieset states that collections stay online for as long as you have an active subscription, or until you delete them yourself, and that they do not expire unless you use the Auto-Expiry feature (article updated 14 July 2026). Auto-Expiry sets the collection to Hidden at 11:59pm local time on the date you choose (article updated 10 August 2026).
When should I not switch away from Pixieset?
When your print sales run through the store, or when your contracts and invoices live in Studio Manager. Moving galleries out of a platform that also holds your sales and your admin means rebuilding those two systems elsewhere, and the subscription saving rarely covers the hours that takes.
What is the cheaper alternative for a studio that only delivers files?
clientgallery.io runs on one plan at 10 $/month or 100 $/year, with unlimited galleries, photos and clients under fair use, no print store, no commissions, no per-gallery fees and no storage tiers. Fair-use ceilings are 1,000 photos per gallery and 250 GB of proofs per paid account; free accounts hold 5 GB.
How hard is it to move a Pixieset account?
The import is a whole-account flow run from the Pixieset dashboard with one bookmark. It reproduces every collection with its sets, titles, descriptions, event date, password and photo order at full size under your own brand. Pixieset is only read, never changed, no password reaches clientgallery.io, and re-running skips what is already imported so the move can run in stages.
