Bar Mitzvah Photo Gallery Delivery: One Link for the Whole Family
A bar or bat mitzvah gallery has three audiences: parents choosing an album, guests looking for themselves, and grandparents who will not create an account. One gallery link can serve all three.
Updated 17 September 2026
A bar or bat mitzvah is a family milestone with a long guest list.
The parents want the portraits and an album.
The friends from school want the photos of themselves on the dance floor.
The grandparents want to see everything, and some of them are not on any social network.
This guide is a delivery plan for photographers who cover these celebrations. It covers how to organise the gallery, how the parents choose album picks, how guests find their own photos, and how the full-resolution files reach the family.
It does not cover religious practice. What may be photographed, and when, is for the family and their congregation to decide.
What the delivery has to do
The gallery has four jobs.
- Show the whole day in a clear order, from portraits to the last dance.
- Let the parents choose the photos for the album without a spreadsheet.
- Let a guest find their own photos without scrolling the entire set.
- Open for any relative from one link, with no account and no app.
On clientgallery.io all four happen in one gallery, on your studio subdomain, with no platform branding on the page.
Organise the day into sections on one scrolling page
Sections are how you group the photos inside a gallery.
The family does not click into anything. They see one scrolling page with a jump bar at the top that shows how many photos each section holds.
Photos you leave outside any section appear first, under the heading “Highlights”. That makes a good home for your strongest frames.
A typical structure looks like this.
| Section | What goes in it | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Highlights (unsectioned) | Your best frames of the day | Shown first on the page |
| Service portraits | Portraits of the child and family, whenever they were scheduled | Strong album candidates |
| Ceremony | Only what you were permitted to photograph | Create it only if it applies |
| Reception | Entrances, speeches, dancing, tables | Where guests look for themselves |
| Candle lighting | Each group called up, in order | If the celebration includes one |
Sections go one level deep. They also share the gallery’s fair-use ceiling of 1,000 photos, so splitting the day into sections does not add room.
If the whole event runs past that ceiling, use a second gallery for the overflow.
The service and ceremony: confirm before you plan a section
Congregations differ on photography during a service.
This guide does not describe those rules, because they are not ours to state.
Ask the family, and through them the congregation, what is permitted before the day. Put the answer in your contract notes.
If photography was permitted, give the ceremony its own section. If it was not, leave the section out entirely rather than showing an empty heading.
Portraits taken at the synagogue outside the service, when the family arranged them, belong in the service portraits section.
Say in the welcome note what the gallery covers, so nobody looks for photos that were never taken.
Reception and candle lighting
The reception is where the guest list shows up in your photos, so it is where guests will look for themselves.
Keep it in shooting order, so the section reads like the evening did.
If the celebration includes a candle lighting, give it a section of its own. Each relative called up will want to find their moment, and a separate heading in the jump bar takes them straight there.
Upload it in the order the candles were lit.
Parents choose the album picks
The same gallery that relatives browse can collect the album selection.
In the full-screen view, one tap stars a photo and a double tap loves it. Parents can star broadly on a first pass, then love only the frames that deserve a spread. How the two levels work is laid out in the guide to star and love pick levels.
There is one thing to plan around. Everyone with the link shares one set of picks. There are no separate pick lists for each person.
So decide who picks before the link goes out.
- Send the link to the parents first, with picks switched on.
- Ask them to agree on the album choices together and press Send my picks once, with one name and email.
- Sending picks locks the selection, so relatives who open the gallery later cannot change it.
- If the parents change their minds, you can reopen picking from the studio. They are not notified automatically, so tell them.
- Once the picks are in, the parents can forward the link to the family.
More on shared selections is in multiple people choosing photos from one gallery. If you publish from Lightroom Classic, the plugin can pull those picks back into your catalog as ratings and a Pick flag.
Guests find themselves with face search
A school friend does not want to scroll through the whole day to find three photos.
Face search solves that. A guest uses a selfie, and the gallery shows the photos that match their face.
Face search is off by default. You switch it on for each gallery where you want it.
The matching runs entirely in the guest’s own browser, and the selfie is never uploaded. The face index sits behind the gallery password, so a stranger without the password cannot use it.
The child’s friends may be minors. Talk to the parents before you switch face search on, and leave it off if they prefer.
Face search does not work on a section’s standalone link, only on the main gallery link.
The full event workflow is in how to deliver event photos so attendees find themselves fast.
Password and who gets the link
A gallery password is optional, and for a family event with children in it, it is worth setting.
A guest types it once, and that browser remembers it for 30 days.
The password also gates the whole-gallery download, the full-resolution ZIP, face search and comments.
Gallery pages are marked noindex, so search engines are told not to list them.
A password stops strangers. It does not stop a guest from forwarding the link and the password, and for a family celebration that is usually the intent.
The download switch hides the download buttons, but the photos are shown as ordinary images, so a determined guest can still save one.
If a link ends up somewhere it should not, you can revoke the gallery and the page goes dark. Details are in how to password protect a client photo gallery.
Grandparents who are not on social media
A grandparent needs one link and, if you set one, the password.
There is no account to create, no app to install, and no email to enter before viewing or downloading.
The parents can forward your message by email or text exactly as it is, so write it for the grandparents too.
| What the grandparent does | What happens |
|---|---|
| Taps the link | The gallery opens in the browser |
| Types the password | Remembered on that browser for 30 days |
| Presses the slideshow button | Full screen, a new photo every 4.5 seconds, looping; a tap or Escape ends it |
| Uses the jump bar | Goes straight to the candle lighting or any other section |
| Presses Download all photos | A ZIP of every hosted photo, if downloads are on |
Each viewer can switch the page between light and dark, and the choice is remembered on their device.
If you want some relatives to look without download buttons, a section has its own share link. That link is view-only: no downloads, no picks, no face search, and no way back to the full gallery. The gallery password still applies to it.
There are no per-viewer logins, so you cannot see which relative opened the gallery. You can see whether it has been opened at all, from the indicator on its tile in your studio.
The full-resolution ZIP window
There are two downloads, and the family should know which is which.
Download all photos gives the hosted photos, which are sized for fast viewing on phones, tablets and screens. They are not the files for a large print.
For print-ready files, a paid account uploads a full-resolution ZIP to the gallery. The family sees a separate button with its size and a countdown of the days left.
| Download | Holds | Available for | Plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Download all photos | Every hosted photo, sized for screens | As long as the gallery exists | Free and paid |
| Single photo | One hosted photo, from the grid | As long as the gallery exists | Free and paid |
| Full-resolution ZIP | The final files you upload | 3 days per handoff; re-upload restarts the clock | Paid only; 100 GB of live ZIPs per account |
Upload the ZIP when the parents are ready to save it, and tell them the window in the same message.
If they miss it, upload the ZIP again.
The download switch does not hide a live full-resolution ZIP. If you are waiting on a final payment, do not upload the ZIP yet. You can paste your own payment link in the gallery, but releasing files after payment is a step you take yourself.
How the gallery and the ZIP share one link is covered in deliver an online gallery and a full-resolution ZIP from one link.

When you should use something else
Some studios earn much of their margin on albums, wall art and prints ordered by relatives.
clientgallery.io has no print store and takes no commission.
If your business depends on grandparents ordering prints from inside the gallery, stay on a platform with a store built in, such as Pixieset or Pic-Time.
There is also no seat model. A studio with an associate photographer shares one account.
The service hosts JPEGs and does not keep RAW files or master video, so keep those on your own drives.
clientgallery.io fits the studio that sells a digital collection and an album, and wants the delivery to be the simplest part of the job. The same plan for another family milestone is in the quinceañera photo gallery guide.

Frequently asked
How should I organise a bar mitzvah gallery?
Use sections for service portraits, the ceremony if photography was permitted, the reception and the candle lighting. The family sees one scrolling page with a jump bar at the top showing how many photos each section holds, and photos outside any section appear first under Highlights.
Can I photograph the service?
That is for the family and their congregation to decide, and practice differs. Confirm what is permitted before the day, and only create a ceremony section if you photographed it.
Can the parents pick album photos in the same gallery relatives see?
Yes. Everyone with the link shares one set of picks, so send the link to the parents first. When they press Send my picks, the selection locks, and relatives who open the gallery later cannot change it. You can reopen picking from the studio if needed.
How do guests find their own photos?
Switch face search on for that gallery. It is off by default. A guest uses a selfie, the matching runs in their own browser, and the selfie is never uploaded. Face search sits behind the gallery password and does not work on section links.
Do grandparents need an account or an app?
No. They need the link and, if you set one, the password. There is no account, no app and no email step before viewing or downloading.
How long can the family download the full-resolution files?
The full-resolution ZIP stays live for 3 days per handoff on a paid account, and you can upload it again at any time to restart the clock. The gallery itself and its Download all photos button stay available for as long as the gallery exists.
Should a studio that sells albums and prints through its gallery use clientgallery.io?
Probably not as its main gallery. clientgallery.io has no print store. A studio that earns from print orders placed by relatives should stay on a platform with a store built in, such as Pixieset or Pic-Time.
