ShootProof vs clientgallery.io: Price, Storage and the Argument We Lost

ShootProof moved to gigabyte-based plans on 23 September 2026, and that deleted the case we used to make against it. Here is what honestly survives on each side.

Updated September 2026

Until this week our comparison against ShootProof leaned on one argument: ShootProof metered photo counts, so a studio that kept delivering galleries eventually hit the counter and climbed a tier it did not choose. On 23 September 2026 ShootProof replaced photo counts with gigabytes. Its help centre now states that plans are determined by the amount of GB storage needed, and its plans page prices every tier in gigabytes. The Professional tier alone carries 1000 GB of photo storage.

That absorbs the volume we used to model. A working studio publishing web-sized proofs does not fill 1000 GB in a second year, so the squeeze we described is genuinely gone. We are not going to keep selling it. This page is the comparison that is left once that argument is removed, and it includes the parts where ShootProof is simply the better purchase.

What we lost, said plainly

The old ShootProof ladder counted photos. That made the comparison easy for us, because a photo count is the one number a busy studio always exceeds. Gigabytes are a different shape. Proof JPEGs are small, so a gigabyte ceiling that sounds modest holds a great many frames, and the top of ShootProof's ladder is unlimited photo storage outright.

So the honest position is this. If your objection to ShootProof was that you would outgrow its photo allowance, that objection has been answered by ShootProof. Anyone telling you otherwise is quoting a plan table that stopped existing this week. What remains on our side is narrower, and it is about shape rather than size: one price instead of a ladder, no store and therefore nothing for anyone to take a cut of, and no separate charge for keeping finished work online.

The two products, row by row

Every ShootProof cell below comes from a page or help article fetched on 23 September 2026, listed in Sources. Every clientgallery.io cell is our own published plan and our own fair-use ceilings.

ShootProof's plan ladder as it stands today

These are the tiers on ShootProof's public plans page, with the annual totals as its help centre prints them. The plans page shows the same annual prices as a per-month figure, which works out to the same number.

PlanPhoto storageVideo storageMonthlyAnnual
Free3 GB, photos onlyNot included$0$0
Starter20 GB shared with videoShared with photos$9.99$99.99
Standard100 GB shared with videoShared with photos$19.99$199.99
Professional1000 GB50 GB$31.99$319.99
PremiumUnlimited150 GB$60$600

Two notes on that table. ShootProof's help centre also documents an Advanced plan at 2000 GB of photo storage and 100 GB of video for $51.99 a month or $519.99 a year, which does not appear on the public plans page. And on Starter and Standard the gigabytes are a single pool shared between photos and video, while Professional and Premium give photo and video separate allowances.

For Canadian studios, ShootProof's help centre publishes a CAD column: Starter is C$120 a year and Standard is C$240 a year. Our own plan is $100 a year.

Where ShootProof charges on top of the plan

ShootProof states it never takes a commission on your sales, on any plan, Free included. That is a real and unusually clean position, and it is worth saying that our zero is cheaper to claim than theirs: we have no store, so there is nothing for us to take a cut of in the first place.

What ShootProof does charge for, beyond the subscription, is four named things in its own fees article: archiving, a card processing fee when it runs your clients' cards or charges your card for lab items, the Booking add-on, and Music plans. Only the first of those is storage-shaped.

Archiving costs a minimum of $2.99 a month for up to 25 GB, then $0.05 per additional gigabyte, billed monthly for the previous month's usage. Photo archiving is included on the Premium plan. Video archiving is not included on Premium and still carries that same minimum charge, which is new as of this week. ShootProof also states that when you remove everything from archiving you still get one more bill, because archiving bills retroactively.

The trade-off to weigh is what archiving buys. ShootProof describes it as backup copies of photos and videos, says it frees GB space in the account, and states that original-size files are stored in the cloud and can be downloaded or unarchived in one click. It also states that archived galleries are not live for client viewing. So it is a paid cold shelf, not a live gallery. We charge nothing for keeping a delivered gallery online, and we also do not hold your originals. Those are two different products, not two prices for the same one.

What ShootProof sells that we simply do not have

This is the part of a comparison page that usually gets buried, so it gets its own section. ShootProof is a larger product than ours and several of the things it sells have no equivalent here at any price.

  • A print store. Lab prints and products are marked as included on every ShootProof tier, Free included. We have none. If your gallery is where clients order wall art and albums, moving to us removes a revenue line and replaces it with nothing.
  • Video hosting. ShootProof hosts video up to 4K on every paid plan. We host JPEG photos only. A studio delivering films alongside stills needs a video home, and it is not us.
  • Business tooling. ShootProof's own account-closing article lists contracts, invoices and email campaigns as things the Free plan does not include, which is to say they exist on its paid plans. We do not sell contracts, invoicing or campaigns.
  • More than one login. The same article lists multiple account users as a paid-plan feature. We have no seat model at all: a two-person studio shares one account, and we would rather say that than describe a workaround.
  • A 14-day trial. ShootProof states a 14-day free trial with no card required. Our free account is a free account rather than a trial: one gallery and 5 GB of proofs, for as long as you want it.

What survives on our side

Three things, and they are all about the shape of the bill rather than the size of the allowance.

One price, with no ladder to climb. $10 a month or $100 a year, and that is the whole price list. There is no tier that unlocks unbranded galleries, no tier that unlocks your own subdomain, and no upgrade waiting for you in a busy year. Unbranded delivery on your own subdomain, Face Search, sub-galleries and the two-way Lightroom Classic plugin are in the one plan.

Nothing to take a cut of. Both products are commission-free today, so this is not a cost difference, it is a design difference. We ship no store, which means no buy prompts sitting between your client and the photographs you just delivered. You paste your own payment link into the gallery instead. Be clear on how that gate works: switching downloads on is a manual action you take, not something that fires when a client pays.

Keeping finished work online is not a separate line. Hosted galleries stay live for as long as the account exists, at no charge beyond the plan, and a client who comes back in two years opens the same link. That is genuinely different from a paid archive that takes the gallery offline while it holds the files.

The ceilings behind our word "unlimited", written out rather than hidden: 1,000 photos per gallery, 250 GB of proofs per paid account, 5 GB on a free account. Full-resolution delivery is separate from the proof gallery: you upload a full-resolution ZIP per gallery, it stays live for 3 days per handoff and can be re-uploaded any time, with 100 GB of standing ZIPs per account.

Who should stay on ShootProof

A comparison page that never sends anyone the other way is an advertisement. These are the studios that should not move.

  • You sell prints through your gallery. This is the clearest case. ShootProof gives you a lab storefront with no commission on every tier. We give you nothing to replace it. If print and product sales are a real revenue line, stay.
  • You deliver video. No amount of flat pricing helps a product that does not host video.
  • You want your gallery host to hold your originals. ShootProof states archiving stores original-size files you can download or unarchive in one click. We host proof JPEGs and warehouse no RAW files. If the platform is your second copy, ours is the wrong tool.
  • You run contracts, invoices or campaigns in the same place. Pulling the gallery out of that stack is a step backwards for a studio that uses it.
  • You need separate logins for staff. There is no seat model here.

Who should move

The studio this product is shaped for delivers photographs and collects selections, and does not sell anything through the gallery. If that is you, the case is that one flat number covers every gallery you will ever publish, nothing about your bill changes in a busy season, keeping old work online is free, and picks come back into Lightroom Classic as ratings, a flag and a collection instead of a list you retype.

Be realistic about the cost of moving. There is no ShootProof importer here, so it is a manual job. The ShootProof migration guide sets out how to do it in stages without a gap in client service, and the answer on downloading your photos out of ShootProof covers the one export route ShootProof documents.

Sources

Every ShootProof figure, quotation and policy above comes from one of these first-party pages. Where a help article carries its own update date, that date is in the title, because an article updated last week is ShootProof's published claim rather than a figure we measured.

Note on one ShootProof page: shootproof.com/pricing/ now redirects to the plans page, so the plans page is the single public price list.

Frequently asked

Does ShootProof still limit how many photos I can upload?

No. ShootProof's help centre states that plans are billed monthly or yearly and are determined by the amount of GB storage needed, and its plans page prices every tier in gigabytes. Photo counts survive only as an estimate on the plan cards. The Professional tier carries 1000 GB of photo storage and Premium is unlimited photo storage.

Which is cheaper, ShootProof or clientgallery.io?

ShootProof Starter is $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year, which is within a cent of our $10 a month or $100 a year. Above Starter, ShootProof runs $19.99, $31.99 and $60 a month while our price does not change. The real difference is shape rather than size: one flat number against a ladder you climb as storage grows.

Does ShootProof take a commission on sales?

No. ShootProof states it never takes a commission on your sales, on every plan including Free, and commission-free sales is marked as included on all five tiers of its plans page. We take no commission either, for a simpler reason: we ship no store, so there is nothing for us to take a cut of.

What does ShootProof archiving cost, and is it included anywhere?

Archiving costs a minimum of $2.99 a month for up to 25 GB, then $0.05 per additional gigabyte, billed monthly for the previous month's usage. Photo archiving is included on the Premium plan. Video archiving is not included on Premium and still carries that minimum charge. Removing everything from archiving still produces one final bill.

Can clientgallery.io host my videos?

No. We host JPEG photos and warehouse no RAW files or master video, which is what keeps the price flat. ShootProof hosts video up to 4K on every paid plan, with shared photo and video pools on Starter and Standard and separate allowances on Professional and Premium. A studio delivering films should stay on a platform that hosts them.

Who should stay on ShootProof rather than switch?

Any studio that sells prints or products through its gallery, delivers video, wants its gallery host to hold original-size files, runs contracts and invoicing in the same place, or needs separate logins for staff. ShootProof sells all of those. We sell none of them, and no pricing argument makes up for a missing feature.

Is there an automatic way to move galleries from ShootProof?

No. Our one-click whole-account import reads Pixieset only. Moving from ShootProof is a manual download and re-upload, and the migration guide sets out how to stage it so clients never lose access during the move.
